Why is the American Flag reversed on some athletic uniforms and U.S military Uniforms?

As i was watching the Colbert Report from iraq i notice that the american flags on the soilders uniforms are backwards, is there a reason for that

  1. It's so the blue field faces the front.
  2. The Stars face forward to symbolize America moving forward.
  3. On the military uniforms it show the flag going into battle...I don't know about the athletic uniforms!
  4. It is to represent a flag flying in the wind as the soldiers charge into battle. It goes back to the days of the American Revolution and the Civil War when flags were carried by a flag bearer. It symbolizes that the American Army never retreats and that we are always moving forward.
  5. Maybe the camera angle was reversed. With no frame of reference, you wouldn't be able to tell (basically, mirroring the image along the y-axis). If a flag was originally on the right side (of a uniform, say), stripes facing out to the right, they would be facing out to the left if the image were mirrored and it would look like the flag were backwards. I don't know for sure, the mirrored image would result in this.
